A special project
This silencer for domestic use is a special project of which we are particularly proud. From the idea to the drawings, planning, solutions, prototyping, development and production, every step has been managed by MPE. The benefits of the product are obvious, such as noise reduction and reduced heat loss in the home. It is made up of a tube and a helical fan in porous expanded polypropylene, also known as open-cell polypropylene (P-EPP), and is ideal for air intakes on perimeter walls. P-EPP is always preferred for its sound-absorbing properties and durability, two aspects that ensure that air quality is not compromised.
The device is made up of a cylindrical body with an external diameter of 19.4 cm and a length of 32 cm, and is characterised internally by a helical geometry with a pitch that guarantees an airflow cross-section of 100 cm2. Dn,e,w = 40 dB. For the development of the silencer, MPE and one of the world's leading manufacturers of acoustic building materials, have won a 2011 ARPRO® Award, which recognises innovation and environmental benefits in various applications of EPP.

easy to move
Easy to install
High sound-absorbing capability
Low thermal conductivity

Unlimited duration
Problems along the way: overcome
One of the most difficult issues was giving the helical fan a particular shape, an impossible goal to achieve with EPP. That’s why MPE found a solution dividing the fan in two pieces, equal in shape and size, and then gluing them together. Result: goal achieved!
The ARPRO® award
In 2011, MPE received an ARPRO® Award (recognition of innovation and environmental benefits in various EPP application categories) for the results achieved in porous expanded polypropylene (P-EPP) moulding technology in a previously unexplored market: building and construction. The collaboration with a national leader in the building materials industry for acoustic insulation led to the creation of the patented acoustic silencer in porous expanded polypropylene (P-EPP), characterised by high sound-absorbing properties and a long life cycle.
